About Us

Without language, no culture can sustain its existence. Our language is our identity. Language plays a crucial role in shaping an individual’s personality as well as his or her psychological development, thoughts, and emotions.

The Sinhala Literary Association of St. Bridget’s Convent is deeply dedicated to preserving and nurturing the Sinhala Language and Literature which has a long history spanning over centuries.

The Sinhala Literary Association is also responsible for The Sinhala Debating Club and The Sinhala Drama Society of St. Bridget’s Convent. We also organize various competitions annually such as essay writing, poetry, and speech competitions.

Our Aim

Through its initiatives, The Sinhala Literary Association aims to create a vibrant literary community and serve as a hub for literary enthusiasts, fostering creativity, encouraging scholarly pursuits, and nurturing the next generation of Bridgetines.

Herencia’23”- Bridgetine Cultural Day Celebrations

The Sinhala Literary Association together with its sister associations, organized the Cultural Day Event on the theme  “Herencia,” Spanish for heritage, on 22nd June 2023. This event was held at the school auditorium.

Through this event the committee and student learning Sinhala language in all grades in the school  showcased the uniqueness of Sinhalese cultural aspects.

Joining with the other language literary associations students were able to demonstrate unity in diversity.

The Sinhala Drama(එකමුතු සූත්තරය ) presented by our very own Drama Society showcased the importance of unity through a traditional Sinhala Folk story. “A combination of Tamil and Sinhala Festival Songs and Dances,” performed by the grade 6 students in collaboration with The Tamil Literary Association showcased the diverse culture and unity among our people. The dance item(සංකලන ) presented by the dance students depicted the different dance styles in different regions in our country. The Eastern Music item(සංධ්වනි) presented by the Eastern band was a classic blend of oriental sounds.
