Curriculum Overview

St. Bridget’s Convent – Colombo 7 Collegiate school follows the National Curriculum of Sri Lanka from Grade 6 – 13 and Edexcel Curriculum for International Advanced Level. It is a detailed, planned and integrated scheme covering a child’s whole school experience.

Grade six(6) to Nine(9)

Lessons are conducted in Sinhala, English and Tamil medium.

All syllabus consists of 13 subjects. They are:

  1. Religion (Roman Catholicism / Buddhism / Islam / Saivaneri)
  2. First Language
  3. Second Language
  4. Mathematics
  5. Science
  6. History
  7. Civics
  8. Geography
  9. Health and Physical Education
  10. PTS (Practical and Technical Skills)
  11. ICT (Information Communication Technology)
  12. Link Language
  13. Aesthetic subjects (Western Music / Eastern Music / Carnatic Music / Oriental Dancing / Bharatha Dancing / Art / English Literature (Grade nine (9) only))

One period each is allocated every week for Physical Training (PT) and Library activities.

Each grade is managed by a Grade head who is available to oversee the discipline and needs of each respective Grade.

Grade 10 and 11

Lessons are conducted in Sinhala, English and Tamil mediums.

The syllabus consists of nine (9) subjects. They are six main subjects and three basket subjects. Main subjects are:

  1. Religion (Roman Catholicism / Buddhism / Islam / Saivaneri)
  2. First Language and Literature
  3. Second Language
  4. Mathematics
  5. Science
  6. History

Three basket subject details are as follows:

  1. Basket I (Business & Accounting Studies / Civics / Geography / French / Link Language (Tamil / Sinhala))
  2. Basket II (Western Music / Eastern Music / Carnatic Music / Oriental Dancing / Bharatha Dancing / Art / English Literature / Tamil Literature)
  3. Basket III (ICT / Health and Physical Education / Home Economics)

A period is allocated for Library activities.

Each grade is managed by a Grade Head who is available to oversee the discipline and needs of each respective Grade.

AL (Local Curriculum)

There are three streams in A/L sections. They are Science, Commerce and Arts. Science and Commerce stream lessons are conducted in Sinhala, English and Tamil medium. Art stream lessons are conducted in Sinhala and English medium only.

In addition to the main subjects, General English and General Information Technology subjects are also taught to all students.

Each stream is managed by Sectional head and grade is managed by a Grade head who oversees the discipline and needs of the respective Grade or Section.

London (Edexcel) International AL

Lessons are conducted in English medium. Subjects can be selected based on below given table.
