The Western Brass Band of St Bridget’s collegiate school comprises of an array of musical ensembles consisting of a brass instrument section accompanied by a percussion section. The Band is trained by Retired Warrant officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force Mr. Daya Karunathilleke, a highly decorated coach who trains the Band in Ceremonial Military discipline and a variety of musical arrangements from Western to Eastern compositions.
The Band comprises of well-trained students from grades 6 to 13 and have practice sessions every Monday till 5 pm. The members of the Band are taught to read music and how to care for their own instruments, thus giving the Band members a stepping stone to being responsible disciplined citizens in the future.
The Western Brass Band perform at many of the School’s important events as a marching Band to Band displays to welcoming of important dignitaries to major school events. The Band also performs occasional fanfare for many of the prestigious events organized by the School such as the annual Prize giving.
